On the third day of Disney Parks Christmas (best if sung), Disney announced details and an opening date for Shanghai Disneyland’s first new land since its opening in 2016.
While Shanghai Disneyland and Walt Disney World are both getting a version of Toy Story Land next year, the similarities pretty much end at the basic premise of guests being shrunk down to the size of a toy to have fun in Andy’s backyard. Shanghai’s land has much more in common with the Toy Story-themed areas in Paris and Hong Kong.
The land will open on April 26, 2017 and feature Rex’s Racer, an attraction already present and Walt Disney Studios Park in Paris and Hong Kong Disneyland, Slinky Dog Spin, a simple spinner ride unlike the coaster coming to Florida, and Woody’s Round-Up, which appears to have a similar concept as Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree, except here you’re in a wagon pulled by toy ponies.
There will also be a new dining option called Toy Box Café. The setting for this restaurant is that Andy is packing boxes. It’s here that you’ll find characters not featured in other parts of the land, such as Buzz Lightyear, Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head and Lots-o’-Huggin’ Bear. The shopping location is quite fittingly Al’s Toy Barn.
As you can see in the concept art, the details for this area look quite lovely and colorful, even though the attractions aren’t particularly exciting. Shanghai Disneyland already has a good number of thrilling attractions, so this new area geared towards kids should be a hit with visitors.
