We’ve been watching the construction progress of the massive Guardians of the Galaxy coaster being built at Epcot closely, both during our recent visits to the park and on social media in between visits. At this week’s IAAPA (International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions) Expo, Disney Parks chairman Bob Chapek unveiled some new detail for the attraction that have gotten us even more excited than we already were.

Chapek unveiled the concept art for the ride vehicles we’ll board when the attraction opens in time for Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary in 2021. They’re calling the attraction a storytelling coaster, and the vehicles will be able to spin to point riders in the direction the storytellers want us to be focused on. This is speculation since details are few thus far, but it sounds like it could be similar to Escape from Gringott’s at Universal Orlando.

During the presentation Chapek shared a video of early ride testing that shows off the cars’ ability to pivot. Watch Theme Park Review’s footage from the event to get sense of what the raw coaster experience could be like. Also, listen for the gasps when he says the ride building could fit four Spaceship Earths inside. It’s a BIG building.

Additionally, look how stylish the vehicles are. If you’re a fan of the first Guardians film you’ll notice the color scheme is very similar to the Star Blaster ships used by the Nova Corps on Xandar. This is likely a small hint at the story we’ll see unfold in the attraction.

Are you ready to get immersed in a brand new adventure with the Guardians of the Galaxy in what is promised to be one of the longest enclosed coasters in the world? This Marvel nerd can’t wait!
